Scholarship Guidelines

Description

Investing in the next generation of lawyers, SOAR for Justice has established the inaugural scholarship program to help defray the costs of obtaining a law school education, including tuition, fees, books and related expenses. The $500 - $1000 award recognizes qualified law students who have been personally impacted by domestic violence or intend to pursue a legal career assisting survivors with their legal needs upon graduation. Candidates must demonstrate academic achievement, financial need and a proven track record in furthering social justice.


Eligibility Requirements

• Enrolled full-time in an ABA-accredited California law school in the academic year 

• Personal experience overcoming domestic violence and/or a sincere interest in pursuing a legal career assisting survivors of abuse upon graduation

• Academic achievement

• Financial need


Application Process

To apply for the SOAR for Justice Scholarship, qualified candidates must submit the following supporting materials:

• Completed Application Form

• Current Resume

• Official or Unofficial Law School Transcript

• Personal Statement (2000 word maximum) explaining how you have been impacted by domestic violence and/or why you wish to pursue a career advocating on behalf of survivors of abuse and law reform, as well as how your background and/or life experience would improve diversity in the field of social justice. Please describe your financial need.


Submit the completed application along with your supporting documents as a single

PDF document to Dovie Yoana King, SOAR for Justice Director. 

All materials must be received by 5pm on September 29.

No late or incomplete applications will be considered.
