I was the first client at the local law school's domestic violence clinic. Their compassion and support led me to receive a restraining order against my abuser.

A few years later, the clinic offered to file a renewal request on my behalf because my restraining order was set to expire. Together with new law student volunteers at the clinic, we went to trial and won. Now I have a permanent lifetime restraining order that never expires.

I'll never forget the moment when the judge read her verdict in court. My student clinic lawyer held my hand so tight as tears streamed down my face. Now when I see this law student around campus (since I also work on the university campus where the law school is located) we both light up with joy.

I have continued to stay involved with the clinic by being a speaker for new clinical law students as well as supporting their involvement in an interdisciplinary research institute to end family violence. I couldn't be prouder to be a part of this amazing clinic. It is life changing.
